NASA’s Supersonic X-plane Completes Testing at NASA Glenn Wind Tunnel.

A scale model of the X-59 QueSST, NASA’s supersonic X-plane, recently completed a test at NASA Glenn’s 8-foot by 6-foot supersonic wind tunnel. This test was used to verify the performance of the aircraft’s unique top-mounted engine through various flight conditions, from takeoff to nearly one and half times the speed of sound (Mach 1.4). The tests were successful in demonstrating the X-59’s engine will perform as expected when it begins initial flight testing in 2021.
