Garden Fete (1914-1918)

Garden fete. Location of events unknown. Groups of mostly women in costumes walk toward camera. They are divided into Classes; but seemingly without reason. Some represent different countries; USA in stars & stripes; Japan with parasol & fan; fidgeting with kimono. Class 2 more wacky outfits — the first a dress with pieces of paper stuck all over it - maybe newspaper cuttings. Then Justice with blindfold and scales; a woman in a night gown with naval emblems; a clown; etc. Class 3 is led off by another woman in Japanese outfit; this one in scandalous shorts ! Some period costumes; - hoop skirts; a medieval cone-shaped hat. Others maybe stories or fairy tales - a fairy godmother; a woman dressed like Robin Hood; but with spider webs hanging from her sleeves when she spreads her arms. Some fairly ornate fabrics & costumes. Also cross-dressing both ways completely bizarre psychedelic hallucinations. Then some black faced minstrels leading a collection of ethnic exaggerations and acid-trip fantasies.
