Whitechapel’s War Heroes (1917)

Location unknown World War One; religion; children. Dedication of a shrine at St. Mary’s Church honouring Whitechapel’s war heroes. Shot of an alcove on outside wall of church; with row of flower pots on the ledge; below it stand a crowd of young boys; some stand in a row against the wall; wearing regular little suits; collars; caps (maybe these are recent war orphans of Whitechapel); and a group facing them are dressed in choirboy or altar boy robes. Priest enters; stands by the shrine; and gives a little speech; then a prayer (with hand on heart). Meanwhile; a young teenage boy wearing a black armband on his coat and a hat with feather in it stands by shrine; helps arrange flower; then just stands there as priest talks. A few policemen and Army guys also present. Ceremony; death; casualties. G 417 B. FILM ID: A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ. EXPLORE OUR ONLINE CHANNEL, BRITISH PATHÉ TV.
