Summertime At The Zoo (1950)

No title. Dicksie, the African elephant, is let into a small bath and is given a drink from a hose by a keeper and a young boy named Jimmy Pullen. C/U of the boy directing the water into the elephant’s mouth. Children are given a ride on a camel. A chimpanzee “does some washing“ in a metal tub of water. Lots of people watch. He is attached to the pail by a lead. He plays with a hose pipe, getting very wet. Children laugh. Adults do too. Chimpanzee drinks from a wine bottle. He looks into the bottle to see if there is anything in it. Crowd of people outside the cage. Polar bear lies spread-eagled in an enclosure. C/U of head of an ostrich. A lion sleeps. Woman teases lion with a parasol. Giant panda enclosure (panda not seen.) Penguins walk along by the side of a pool. They then walk in the water. Penguins eat fish given to them by a keeper (only his hand seen). Unedited material. Note: this is possibly material for the Secrets of Nature film entitled “Springtime at the Zoo“. F
