Military Wild West Show (1914-1918)

Titles read: ’Romsey. Military Wild West Show.’ Hampshire. Soldiers recreate the American West. First some guys come riding out on horseback - among these some stunt riders standing up on horses; a guy twirling a lasso. Next; a roping demonstration: a man with a lasso stands in a large field; and lassos a man on horseback as he rides by. Then we see a horse & rider pulling a man behind them who has a rope around his waist! Looks like cruel & unusual punishment. We missed the part where he roped the guy like a calf; though! A line of men in front of building in BG. Another stunt: a man stands holding out a stick (?) and the roping expert; this time wielding a whip; whips the stick into pieces. Dressed up like American-Indians; in long fringed jackets; headbands; feathers; the soldiers dance around 2 wigwams or tepees (teepees) portraying wild savages. ’Cowboys’ gather round tables outside makeshift saloon to get drink - two stand on tables and play banjos. Parade of horse-drawn carriage follow
