(Some damage to film in this sequence.) At Leeton railway station we see a woman in smart uniform greeting three new girls, also in uniform (nicer than British land girls’ garb!). Back at the hostel the girls sit around a table and have dinner. Rather dark shot of four women sitting by the fireside, reading magazines and warming their hands. The next day the women are taken in a truck to a farm. They all wear trousers and sunhats. The farmer gives them instructions and they get to work.
