£8,000,000 Cheque Presented To Britain By Australia (1949)

London. MS. Sir Stafford Cripps, Chancellor of the Exchequer, seated at desk at the Treasury. He rises to greet Mr Norman Mighell, Australian High Commissioner, who presents cheque - natural sound. He presents the cheque in the name of the people and Government of Australia. Sir Stafford replies - natural sound: “Mr Mighell I would ask you to convey to your government and your people the most sincere thanks of the British people to this further example of Australian generosity. This is the third occasion in the last three years upon which such a cheque has come from Australia, making in all the large total of £45,000,000 Australian or £36,000,000 sterling. This amounts to more than 5 million (mistake) pounds for every man woman and child in Australia.
