Blizzard leaves hundreds of drivers stranded on highway in Turkey

Some 200 drivers and travellers stranded in a snow-hit highway in southeastern province of Diyarbakir were rescued early on Monday, Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Presidency (AFAD) said in a statement. The statement said crews evacuated passengers stranded in 47 vehicles and two buses stuck on highway due to a blizzard, following a 12-hour long operation. Heavy snowfall disrupted road traffic in mainly Kurdish southeast Turkey, shutting down highways and leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded on highways.
