Books & Makeup. “The Gray House“: A genius tale or another Harry Potter wannabe?

#makeup #books #bookreview #magicrealism The debut novel by Mariam Petrosyan, published back in 2009, has been at the centre of some heated debates ever since. One camp considers “The Gray House“ to be a genius book, best suited to become part of the reading lists at school. The other camp dismisses the whole concept of this “nonsensical“, “chaotic“ “Harry Potter wannabe“. Spoiler: I surely belong to the former. Now, the very attempt to review this book is a failure from the get-go. I’m not sure if one can put into words the impressions of visiting the masterfully crafted world of Mariam Petrosyan that she had been creating for 18 years. The words fail here, as do the photos of the most beautiful sunsets, treasure moments and favourite places. Doesn’t mean we don’t try! I want to celebrate once again the Gray House and its inhabitants; and should I succeed in luring at least 1 person into reading the book - then I was welcomed by the house not for nothing.
