Love that banjo! One of this band’s many, many great hits .. and a personal favorite of mine! I aimed for authenticity and a touch of humor on their very infamous carny melody. The Hollies were great at placing offbeat instruments into their songs, but instruments that worked. Who can forget the steel drums in Carrie Anne, their 1967 summer hit? Recorded at Abbey Road Studios in summer 1966, the single was released in October 1966. Peaking at #1 in Canada and #2 in the UK, the song went to #7 in the US on the Billboard Hot 100 on December 10, 1966 (#8 on Cash Box).
