Shatrov served in the Mokshansky Infantry Regiment and the waltz was inspired by the events that took place in the Battle of Mukden. The lyrics of the waltz were provided by Stepan Skitalets, contributing to its popularity. During more recent times, the waltz has been featured in several movies such as the 2010 film “Fortress of War“.
