OYFN VEG SHTEYT A BOYM - Lea K & Rabbi T (Yiddish Song) Itzik Manger poem set to Music

“Oyfn Veg Shteyt a Boym“ is a song based on the poem by Itzik Manger (born 1901 in Czernowitz, today Ukraine). A song about freedom. Like many other Manger poems it was set to music. Its composer is disputed, some credit Philip Laskowsky. Itzik Manger lived in Romania, Poland, France, England, the US and Israel. His song is about a child’s wish to be as free as a bird. Is he that child? Was he free? We sing for hope that our Ukrainian friends will soon be free.
