Hakka Sentiments in Woven Ribbons

The woven ribbon, which has been popular for thousands of years, represents the collective memory of Hakka women. In the old days, whether they were refined ladies or village women living in deep mountain forests, they all possessed the skill of operating the loom for weaving. In the anonymous poem “Mulan Ci“ from the Southern and Northern Dynasties, it describes the scene of Mulan weaving before joining the army as “Sounds of weaving continue, Mulan weaves by the door,“ portraying a vivid picture of the lives of Hakka women throughout history.
