Sailing Florida - St. Augustine to Biscayne Bay - Hallberg Rassy 54 Cloudy Bay - Dec’19. S19 Ep22

We depart St. Augustine just after a cold front passes and we get a wonderful overnight sail with an offshore win. Our route takes us south passed Cape Canaveral and finally into Palm Beach, where we anchor in the very pleasant surroundings of Lake Worth. We rent a car here and explore Fort Lauderdale and the exclusive Palm Beach residential area. We then attempt to take the ICW to Fort Lauderdale, but we are thwarted by a bridge with a height restriction and end up having to back track to Lake Worth again. We depart again early the next morning, this time via the outside route in the Atlantic. Anchored next in South Lake, Hollywood, we enjoy Christmas day in Fort Lauderdale then have an enjoyable day trip to Miami. Our short passage from Hollywood to Biscayne bay is pretty rough, on the tail end of a strong onshore wind, and we are glad to get into the shelter behind Kay Biscayne, navigating the last few miles in the dark.
