The Peoples Temple Agricultural Project, commonly known as “Jonestown,“ was a remote settlement in Guyana founded by the Peoples Temple, a controversial American cult led by Jim Jones. Jonestown gained worldwide notoriety on November 18, 1978, when 918 people tragically lost their lives at the settlement, the nearby Port Kaituma airstrip, and a Temple-operated building in Georgetown, Guyana’s capital.
