La Brlure de mille soleils (Pierre Kast - Chris Marker, 1965) eng sub

Inspired by the work of Charles Fourier, the inventor of the phalanstery, and by the paintings of the Portuguese Eduardo Luiz, who produced the drawings for this short film, The Burning of a Thousand Suns is a love fable, an invitation to utopia and to the love of women, but even more a reflection on difference, on the Other. A young man from the future, accidentally discovers two inventions that allow him to travel to the confines of space. He lets himself be guided by chance and finds himself at the other end of the universe where another Earth evolves. Time is running out for him, but he decides to meet these other humans. In this world, the number 8 is the perfect number, necessary to reach fullness and perfection. A young woman appears, also curious about this stranger who has come from so far away. A love story is born, impossible like all love stories. The lack of openness and perspective, the excessive pressure of experience and lived experience, will lead the young man, despite himself, to an essential truth of existence. The editing of this film was entrusted to Chris Marker, undoubtedly inspired by this original script. Numerous references to the Markerian universe, including the cat, appear here and there in this poetic short film that navigates the fringes of perfection. English subtitles thanks to acrowley92
