Ceci n’est pas Bruxelles (Benoit Lamy, 1986)

An original, unique portrait of the Belgian capital. An almost dreamlike image where Brussels is seen through its inhabitants. They are, in fact, the real protagonists. With the fears, the anxieties, the hopes... and the alienations that drive them. There is the real city, as it appears to us, but there is also the “dream“ city. The one created by artists who, by placing “glass canvases“ in front of squares and monuments, have represented and recreated them in new forms. The common thread of this work is ultimately constituted by the relationship between man and the city. Relationships “described“ by Lamy’s camera, not through daily life but through the rediscovery of the “imaginary“ that each of us carries within us.
