Graduated from the St. Petersburg Conservatory. 1962-66 soloist of Mariinsky Theatre. 1967-88 soloist of Bolshoi. 1964-65 he studied at the Academy of Young Singers at La Scala. First Prize at III International Tchaikovsky Competition in 1966. Among the best parts: Hermann, Don Jose, Otello, Cavaradossi, Sadko, Canio. 1
