Narcotics & addiction; a shocking tragedy in Afghanistan

As the world’s largest opium producer, Afghanistan pays a huge price for its narcotics trade. From under a grimy bridge in Kabul to the rural beauty of Bamyan, the VOA Afghan service takes a hard look at the country’s drug problem in “Under the Spell: Afghanistan’s Addiction Crisis.” Here, you see how the nation-- the world’s largest opium producer-- struggles with millions of drug addicts, including women and children. Many opened up to VOA’s reporters, including Nazo, whose drug addicted husband left her with six boys to raise. Another woman, Zohra, lives in a tent with two children and makes money by collecting trash at night. She describes her encounter with a man, and his deadly offer.
