My First ULTRA Bike Race (Unbound XL - 350mi / 563km)

Unbound XL is a gravel bike race over 350 miles, 563 kilometers, in the farm lands of Emporia Kansas. This bike race is fully self supported event, meaning EVERYTHING you eat, wear, or repair is all on you. 98% of the course is gravel roads, you ride through the night, meaning you need lights. There are 6 gas stations along the route where you can get food and water. I learned A TON from this experience, and will change a lot of my personal set up for next year. Below is my set up in detail and what I would change. My setup was a SURVIVAL approach vs RACE, which I feel now was a bad idea. I was so confident I could win or podium, that I didn’t want bad mechanical luck take me out. So I leaned on my fitness to over come weight, but it was just too heavy and I could have streamlined the setup much more. But I just didn’t know what to expect.
