“I was never running away, I was racing to the dreams in my head. I found a faith that you’d never believe, from sewing all the wounds we bled.” What was important to me about this final song was capturing that feeling like you’ve gotten a lot of shit off your chest and revolutionized your perspective of the world. I’ve gotten so used to writing expansive and operatic stories that I realized I had been neglecting to examine more realistic emotions and problems. I feel like “THE KID WHO KEPT RUNNING” is like a sendoff that’s positive but still open ended, like it’s saying ‘we made it, but we should do this again sometime, this whole getting through our problems thing.’ The lyrics to this song were written as if Scootaloo was writing to the CMC after going separate ways to live their own truths and dreams. I projected a lot of the doubts and taunts I’ve faced as phrases that I respond to in the stanzas. Confronting those things through Scootaloo’s character feels like I really was able to give her
