(17 Jan 2018) With terrorist recruitment and Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential race in the spotlight, Senate lawmakers grilled executives with Facebook, YouTube and Twitter on their companies efforts to keep America safe.
“We share your concerns about terrorist use of the internet,“ said Monika Bickert, Facebook’s head of global policy management. “That’s why we remove terrorist content as soon as we become aware of it. It’s also why we have a dedicated counterterrorism team of people working across our company,“ she said.
“We use a mix of technology and humans to remove violative content quickly,“ said Juniper Downs, YouTube’s
global head of public policy and government relations.
“Users can alert us to content they think might violate our policies through a flag found below every YouTube video. We have teams charged with reviewing flagged content 24/7 in multiple languages and countries around the world,“ she said.
