“Yokan“, “premonition“, once again taken from the Tour14 Psychonnect -Mode Of “Gauze”?-. This was requested by Yuma Amakusa!
If you have a moment to spare, have a look at the annotations. This is a song that in my estimation required a little bit more interpretation than I’m usually comfortable putting into a translation (in order for it to sound decent in English) and I’d like to clarify some points so you know what you’re dealing with.
Translation by me.
Annotations:
“Love freezing at -180°C“ - Kyo sings “-180°C“ only as “minus“ in this song.
“To quiet you - Through quiet love - I give quiet discomfort“ - This goes for this line and all the other variants of it in this song: There are only particles (grammatical indicators) given to hint at the meaning. This means that for example instead of “I give quiet discomfort“ the Japanese only really says “quiet discomfort“, but it is made clear through a particle (を) that this has to be understood as an object. So something is “done“ with the “quiet discomfort“ and since it would really only make sense that it is either “given“ or “created“ or something along those lines, I translated it that way.
Also, in case you’re paying a lot of attention to these things and are wondering why I translated “ni“ (に) differently in different lines, it’s because it’s one of those particles that have multiple (in fact, a lot of) functions, and I tried to find the one seeming most correct for each line’s context.
“And you don’t notice what I’m doing“ - This literally only says “You don’t notice me“, but it is followed by a description of actions that go unnoticed so I am positive that this is what is being expressed.
“With my quiet heart - Through my silent heart - I point the blade at your heart“ - This also goes for the following few lines. Please be aware that “your“ and “my“ are interchangeable, or rather, they’re not actually specified, so feel free to repeat them to yourself in whichever way makes most sense to you.
“At some point I had noticed what you’re doing - But just being able to be by your side is enough for me“ - Really important: it’s safe to say that there’s a change in perspective for these two lines. Judging from the pronouns (“I“ and “you“) chosen in this song, it’s a man singing about his relationship with a woman. However in these two lines, the perspective shifts and it’s her speaking. After this it switches back to his perspective.
