Guillermo del Toro and Mark Gustafson on GUILLERMO DEL TORO’S PINOCCHIO

GUILLERMO DEL TORO’S PINOCCHIO Academy Award-winning director Guillermo del Toro and Emmy Award-winning stop-motion legend Mark Gustafson reimagine the classic Carlo Collodi tale of the fabled wooden boy against the backdrop of Mussolini’s regime in 1930s Italy. This darkly whimsical tour de force finds a grieving Geppetto (David Bradley) seeking comfort in his creation of a wooden puppet named Pinocchio (Gregory Mann). When the Turquoise Fairy (Tilda Swinton) grants the puppet the gift of life, Pinocchio sets out on an enchanted adventure with his wise companion Cricket (Ewan McGregor) that transcends worlds and reveals the life-giving power of love. Lushly realized in Gustafson’s rustic animation style with del Toro’s panache for fantastical old-world beauty, the film marks del Toro’s first stop-motion animated production, as well as his first musical, with songs co-written by the filmmaker, composer Alexandre Desplat (THE SHAPE OF WATER) and lyricist Roeban Katz.
