Newcastle v QPR, 28th August 1982 - Keegan’s Debut - Part 1

’We’re in heaven, we’ve got Kevin!’ proclaimed the Newcastle Evening Chronicle. This game was the start of a very special 2 years as a Newcastle United supporter in the dark days of 2nd division (old school) football. On the back of a 9th placed position (largely thanks to the goals of Imre Varadi and the emergence of Chris Waddle) in the 1981-82 campaign, manager Arthur Cox shocked the football world by persuading Southampton’s former Liverpool and Hamburg legend Kevin Keegan to drop down a league to help this sleeping giant return to Division One. His debut against the 1982 FA Cup final runners up QPR saw queues from 9am and an attendance recorded as 35,718 which those present say was never a reflection of the actual gate! Enjoy first half highlights of this tremendous piece of Newcastle United FC History. Attendance: 35,718 Exclusive to Facebook page Newcastle United - Very Rare Pictures and Video Clips from 1980-1994
