I actually received this news yesterday, but I wanted to wait for official confirmation from the organizers and the liberal media’s reaction before sharing it with you. The Open Art queer festival, which was supposed to start today in Baumanka, has been cancelled. The organizers’ website was blocked by Roskomnadzor, and the event will no longer take place. Why? Because concerned officials heeded my warnings about a massive “gender prejudice-free“ art extravaganza being planned right under their noses in the heart of Moscow. Law enforcement agencies decided to investigate the matter thoroughly, and this time they acted swiftly. I am grateful to them for their quick response. Today, you will read a lot from “independent“ journalists about how we disrupted an “art festival“ in Moscow, where they claim we imagined gay propaganda. But they fail to mention that OpenArt has always been positioned as a queer festival, and this year the organizers simply tried to conceal it cleverly. The woman in the video is Olga Baranova, the director of OpenArt and a well-known LGBT activist in Russia. She is also the first director of the Moscow Community Center, which five years ago brought us “art“ courtesy of the Swedish Institute (an organization that has been deemed undesirable in the Russian Federation). Here is Olga speaking six months ago to the Polish online media “Sprawy Wschodu“ about the challenges faced by rainbow activists in Russia. Interestingly, she is speaking from the USA, where she currently resides and works for another LGBT NGO, while also managing a Russian community center remotely. This kind of situation occurs periodically in Russia, always bringing us another dose of “art“ free from prejudice and supposedly filled with inclusivity. But honestly, we don’t need it. Thanks.
