Terrifying explosions rip through homes as wildfires burn out of control in Chile

Out of control wildfires consumed homes in the central Valparaiso region of Chile on Friday (February 2) night, burning through thousands of hectares. According to Chile’s national forestry body CONAF, some 7,000 hectares in Valparaiso alone have been burned. Throughout the country there were at least 158 reported wildfires as of Friday evening. High temperatures and strong winds have been blamed for fanning the wildfires, with firefighters facing down massive flames as they tried to keep blazes away from homes. According to local media, preliminary reports claim about 1,000 homes have been damaged. At least ten people have died in forest fires in Chile, AFP reported early on Saturday (February 3), citing officials.
