When Jim Henson Productions and Sony wanted to make something along the lines of Jim Henson’s “The Dark Chrystal“ or “Labyrinth“ they approached graphic novelist Neil Gaiman and illustrator Dave McKean, who had previously collaborated on the graphic novel series “Black Orchid“ (1988), “The Sandman“ (1989-1996) and children’s book “Coraline“ (2002).
