Typhoon Doksuri: House swept away by raging river in Philippines

Winds in excess of 100 miles per hour have lashed the Philippines, killing one person and forcing 16,000 others to evacuate as Typhoon Doksuri made landfall. The storm hammered northern regions with gale-force gusts and torrential rain on Wednesday, cutting power and flooding low-lying villages, authorities said. It was packing maximum sustained wind speeds of 110 miles per hour as it hit Dalupiri Island, roughly 300 miles north of Manila and south of Taiwan, threatening coastal communities there and prompting warnings from the state weather agency of “violent, life-threatening conditions”.
