Fabris -- Plate 23

This wound of fourth against a third might originate in this manner. Both contenders are in the misura larga, and our fencer motions with his sword to find the opponent’s blade to the inside. The opponent, discerning the motive of the former, sees an opening underneath our fencer’s sword-hand and lowers his point in order to strike there. But our fencer has only moved the point of his sword. So, as he sees the opponent attacking him there, he abandons his original motion of finding the sword and he straightens his point to the opponent’s body, turning his hand in fourth and placing his hilt against the opponent’s debole. In this manner, he parries and counters in one tempo. -Salvator Fabris (Translated by Tom Leoni)
