France: Tear gas deployed as thousands rally in Paris Labour Day march

Subscribe to our channel! Police deployed tear gas as scuffles broke out during an International Worker’s Day (May Day) march in Paris on Saturday. Thousands of protesters and members of France’s major trade unions gathered at the Place de la Republique and marched towards the Place de la Nation demonstrating against government policies on social rights, job cuts, civil liberties, and handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. At least 17 people were arrested so far, according to the Parisian police. Each year, May Day, falling on May 1, is marked in France by large demonstrations of workers and labour activists backed by trade unions such as the General Confederation of Labour (CGT), the Unitary Trade Union Federation (FSU), and the Union Syndicale Solidaires (SUD), who organise marches to campaign for improved working conditions and for other social issues. #LabourDay #MayDay #InternationalWorkersDay #Paris #France Video ID: 20210501-035
