Gould-Mozart Concerto C-minor

Recorded in Toronto January 17 and 18/1961 at Massey Hall; CBC Symphony Orchestra, Walter Susskind, conductor (Cadenza by Hummel) First release by Columbia masterworks. Now reissued by Sony. This remastered version, using higher resolution, captures far more detail than the usual CD standard. When analogue recordings are transferred through this new medium it is now possible to reveal hidden details and vividness of colour not evident in the original format. This Mozart concerto, No 24, is the only one Gould played in public and recorded. He had planned to record most of the concertos, conducting from the keyboard, but this project never came to fruition. Gould played Mozart’s C-minor 6 times: with Paul Paray (Detroit), Bernstein (New York), Louis Lane (Vancouver), Frank Brieff (New Haven), Walter Susskind (Toronto). He also played it in Stockholm (Jochum) in 1958 (Radio broadcast).
