Police deployed water cannon to disperse anti-lockdown protesters in The Hague as clashes erupted hours after the Dutch government announced a three-week partial lockdown in an effort to tackle a rapid surge in COVID-19 infections. As tensions ran high, the protesters hurled objects at the officers. Police were seen using batons on some protesters. The measures come as COVID cases soar in the Netherlands, with over 16,200 new cases recorded on Friday. As part of the measures, restaurants, bars and supermarkets must close at 20:00 while non-essential shops are to shut at 18:00.
