These are edited extracts from the original television transmission of ’The Art of Conducting’ and feature three great 20th century maestros: Wilhelm Furtwängler, Arturo Toscanini and Leopold Stokowski. The contributors include violinists Hugh Bean and Yehudi Menuhin, musicologist Hans Keller, conductors Sir Georg Solti and Mariss Jansons, record producer Richard Mohr, composer and conductor Oliver Knussen, and clarinetist Jack Brymer. The complete original programme dates from 1993, so due to its age these excerpts are uploaded here under ’fair use’ terms and conditions.
