The Australian Army Tank Museum at Puckapunyal, Victoria holds a collection of armored vehicles of interest to the School of Armour which trains personnel at this operational military base.
This footage was shot on Thursday 06-Oct-2022 and is of the Type 97 Shinhoto (New Turret) Chi-Ha Medium Tank. This variant was fitted with a 47mm main gun that showed its effectiveness against M3 Stuart Light Tanks when first employed in The Philippines in May 1942.
It has a V12 Mitsubishi diesel engine, and was fitted with 2 Type 97 machine guns mounted coaxially and in a hull ball mount. Armour was relatively thin at 33mm on the turret front and 25mm on the hull front.
