Today’s demo is a simple loose watercolour seascape painting of waves crashing and breaking on a rocky beach, inspired by a photo from Pixabay, sadly I have misplaced the link, so can’t find it again but if I can track it down I’ll link it here. My main focus was on painting most of the waves negatively by painting round them, with a high contrast between the rocks and waves.
Materials: Millford 100% cotton cold pressed paper, 11“ x 15“/28cm x 38cm, various brushes, see video, but use whatever brushes you prefer. I used a limited palette of Cotman watercolour tube paints in raw sienna, indigo, sepia and paynes grey with a touch of white gouache on the gulls, but use whatever colours and brushes you prefer if you feel like trying this tutorial.
My board is at an angle of about 45-60 degrees.
Many thanks to my lovely Patrons for your support!
