Combat Shooting Drill- Developing Rhythm | Tactical Rifleman

Rhythm and shooting? Yeah, it’s a thing. Think about it. Even if you weren’t blessed with a musical ear your brain is comfortable with rhythm. So what does this have to do with shooting? Well… to make it simple, when trying to speed up a string of fire if you are able to evenly space your shots you will be more easily able to control your recoil expectancy (which is every shooter’s ongoing battle with ourselves). In addition, practicing even spacing with the trigger finger can make the finger movement faster and smoother. Where can this get us in trouble? Getting caught in a loop makes us lose our critical reaction flexibility. For example if we get used to only shooting three rounds per engagement it will be difficult to shoot a different string of fire efficiently when called to do so if we did not achieve the desired effect on the target or are required to shoot a different string of fire on a range. So it is helpful to develop shooting rhythm, but also change it up and make yourself think while you’re shooting. That’s why we do rhythm drills but then change them up and make ourselves think fast and change things up on the fly.
