The 1969 Draft Lottery (Vietnam War)

The first-ever televised draft lottery, December 1, was held for young men born between Jan 1, 1944 - Dec 31, 1950. Each birthday pulled corresponds with a draft number. The lower the number, the higher chance you’ll be drafted. In fact, in this televised 1969 draft, anyone who received a number lower than 196 (1-195) were called to report. 307,276 were called to report. Half of those who reported (162,746) were actually inducted. The rest were rejected due to various reasons (physical, college students, legal, etc). A draft was held every year after this until 1973, when it converted to an all-volunteer military.
