Old School “Great Sage Equaling Heaven“ (Sun Wukong / Monkey King) Birthday Celebration in Hong Kong

This video was presumably shot in the 1980s in the Sau Mau Ping area of Hong Kong. It depicts the preparations and celebration of the Great Sage’s birthday, complete with competitions of self-mortification by Tangki spirit-mediums. This video was sent to me by one of the monkey god’s devotees. I had English subtitles added so a wider audience could watch it. Subtitles added by Haiyan Wang.
