Kathryn Cok - J.P. Sweelinck/ Pavana Lachrimae (live @Kasteel Groeneveld)

In honor of Sweelinck’s 400th anniversary, Kathryn Cok performs Pavana Lachrimae composed by ’the greatest composer the Netherlands has ever produced’ Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck. On a location that suits the music: Kasteel Groeneveld in Baarn. Kathryn Cok was born in New York but has lived in the Netherlands for many years. Here she studied harpsichord with Jacques Ogg, Tini Mathot and Ton Koopman. She is active as a harpsichordist, fortepianist and as a scientist and is co-founder of the Caecilia-Concert. Amsterdam celebrates this anniversary with the Sweelinck Festival between 16-24 October. Who was JP Sweelinck? Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck was born in Deventer in 1562 but moved to Amsterdam at a young age. He was employed by the city for more than forty years as organist of the Oude Kerk and leader of the Amsterdam Collegium Musicum.
