This remix of Giles Martin’s 2023 official remix of The Beatles’ 1969 recording of “Old Brown Shoe“ doesn’t claim to be superior, but it does showcase how this energetic song would sound with the vocals brought more forward. The Beatles recorded this during a period when they were experimenting with various unconventional recording techniques for vocals and instruments. It’s believed that George Harrison recorded his lead vocal while singing into a corner with a lower-quality microphone. Whatever the method, it’s evident in the recording! The original vocal is distorted and has a quality reminiscent of a bathroom recording.
