Is This Putin’s Plan? Wagner To Target Poland From Belarus Via Suwalki Gap, Claims Russian Lawmaker
Russian lawmaker Andrey Kartapolov claims that the expulsion of the Wagner group to Belarus was part of a strategy by Russian President Putin to prepare for an attack on Poland. Kartapolov suggests that Wagner forces may be training the Belarusian Armed Forces to seize control of the strategically important Suwałki Gap. Poland has responded by deploying over 1,000 troops to its eastern border as a precautionary measure. US President Joe Biden made a quip about the poisoning of Wagner chief Yevgeny Prigozhin, hinting at Putin’s involvement. Meanwhile, a video allegedly from a Wagner field commander warns of the group’s preparedness for global events, but its authenticity is yet to be verified. The UK Ministry of Defence states that negotiations for the group’s future are nearing an end, with an interim arrangement taking shape, but the whereabouts of Prigozhin remain unclear.
