These TV commercials for Roman Meal bread date to the early to mid 1970s, promoting the “light brown bread with natural whole grain goodness“. Roman Meal bread is still sold today. It is baked with whole wheat, whole rye, flaxseed, wheat germ, honey, and malted barley. According to the ads, the entire whole wheat kernel is preserved in the process.
Roman Meal Company was founded in Tacoma, Washington in 1912 and focused on whole-grain products, including bread, hot cereal, and snack bars. The company was founded on the principles that Canadian physician Robert Jackson believed to have been the components of the healthful regimen of Roman soldiers. The trademark is now owned by Flowers Foods.
