Shot by an unknown American traveler -- possibly a military attache -- this home movie footage of Shanghai documents the extent of damage and the urban development in the wake of the World War II, and shows some of the former and current Shanghai landmarks, starting with the Huangpu River. Shown are buildings of Grosvenor House, French Sports Club, the Consulate General of Russia, Jiangwan stadium before its reconstruction, the Jiangwan airfield, the Shanghai Municipal Hospital -- apparently being used as US military HQ -- and some planned development in Pudong, as a part of the Garden-Cities 1927-1929 Republic of China Greater Shanghai Plan for urban development. This footage is from 1946 – December 1947, taken by an American stationed in Shanghai during the Republic of China in the mainland (Shanghai was taken by the PRC army on 25th of may 1949).
