Shipwrecks and Spears | Sailing Aequus - Episode 1

For the first sail of the season, we have James & Laura (Sailing Zingaro) on board and we set sail to explore the stunning uninhabited island of Klein Curacao. Klein meaning “little“ in Dutch is a tiny island situated between the main island of Curacao and Venezuela. It has a rather dark past as the island was once used by the Dutch West India Company to quarantine slaves from Africa before they were allowed to arrive on mainland Curacao. The islands windward side is a graveyard for ships partly due to the islands low laying land and minimum vegetation which makes spotting the island from sea difficult. One of the wrecks we explore is the oil tanker “Maria Bianca“ that ran aground in the late 80’s and could not be salvaged or saved.
