No Doubt is famous for bending the rules of genres and styles. With ’Don’t Speak,’ I saw a song that could live across so many different sonic worlds. Embracing the challenge, I wanted to find a way to cover it that feels just as good as the original. The original is already daring and brave in its approach, and my version offers a more soulful take. My biggest challenge was finding a vocal approach to compete with Gwen Stefani’s amazing performance.
