A cheap 12 Volt portable cooktop (or hotplate) should exist on store shelves. I often cannot find good 12 volt cooking appliances, which motivates me to build them here in the solar workshop. This hot plate is currently just a prototype and has many drawbacks, but this video proves the idea works and it can be done. The project was more difficult than expected, I encountered several technical and safety challenges while building. Not surprisingly I found many off the shelf cooktops impossible to crack into, and it was hard to know which ones were best to use as a foundation for this project.
