Welcome back to Polyblank! This time, I wanted to do a deep dive on Kim Jung Gi, my favorite traditional artist, who sadly passed away a couple years ago. The video centers around him and other artists, painters, digital illustrators who have passed away early. There is also a big focus on the legacies of artists and what a “legacy“ even means.
The people spoken about range from well known figures like Guido Reni and Van Gogh to famous contemporary artists like Qinni Art and Devon Rodriguez. Even the legendary manga artist Akira Toriyama.
I wanted the video to feel very dream-like, so I sometimes cut off the main topic to go talk about some obscure artworks, but also animated films and other media that center on this theme of passing away early and legacy. Perhaps not as art-history heavy as my other videos but definitely still focused on art.
There’s also my personal journey of art, starting from being influenced by artists like Kim Jung Gi to eventually quitting drawing altogether. (Then coming back of course)
I traveled to film this video in Italy, Monza. Sadly as nice as it looks I cannot actually read that newspaper. Beautiful place though.
The next video will be about the Louvre Museum in Paris.
This channel is an attempt to make art history videos fun to watch. Most music used is classical and can be found via Youtube.
