Deep Purple - Hallelujah (1969)

This is the 1969 official film clip for Deep Purple Mark 2’s first recording HALLELUJAH. The recording of this song acted as the audition for Gillan and Glover on June 12th at De Lane Studios in Kingsway, London - the track having been previously played and sung on that day (!) by Mark 1 singer Rod Evans and bassist Nick Simper. The 45 came out in July but failed to do anything special. Gillan wasn’t overly impressed with the track, and it led him and Glover to bring a track called Speed King to the next this track really does mark the end of psych-pop-Purple and paved the way for the heavy rock of Mark II... Check out Jon Lord’s comments describing what happened at the time when Ian Gillan & Roger Glover joined the band.
