‘Free, free, Palestine!’ Western cities rally to support Palestinians as Israel starts Gaza invasion

Pro-Palestinian protesters swarmed the Brooklyn Bridge on Saturday, shutting down traffic on the Manhattan-bound side of the bridge. It came as Israel launched an expanded ground operation on Saturday after creating a near-blackout of communication in the Gaza Strip with increased bombardment and artillery fire overnight. In the meantime, more and more pro-Palestinian demonstrators are marching in different European cities. According to local police, around ten thousand of pro-Palestinian demonstrators marched in Berlin’s Kreuzberg district on Saturday to demand “freedom for Palestine”. Organizers had called the rally under the title “Global Majority United“, to protest “Apartheid“ and oppressive regimes. Protesters in the French city of Marseille waved Palestinian flags and chanted slogans urging the end of Israeli military activities in the Gaza Strip. In central Rome, around 20,000 protested against Israel waving hundreds of Palestinian flags in front of the Colosseum. Thousands of pro-Palestinian demonstrators marched in central London to demand the UK government call for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. Israeli forces continued ground operations in Gaza on Sunday in what Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu called the second phase of a war aimed at crushing Hamas. The Palestinian death toll in Gaza has passed 8,000, most of them women and children, according to the Health Ministry in Hamas-ruled Gaza.
